Ernesto Martinez, Jr., JD, MST, CPA

With more than 32 years of experience, his expertise encompasses business, taxation, estate planning, trusts, and reporting.


Martinez assists clients with planning with revocable and irrevocable trust, credit shelter trust, family trusts, special needs trusts, family limited partnerships, and other estate planning issues.          

He also advises foreign and domestic clients concerning trust, estate and tax planning options, including gifting, income, transfer, and estate taxation.

 

Martinez earned his Master’s Degree in Taxation from Florida International University, his law degree from Columbia University School of Law, and his undergraduate B.B.A. degree in accounting, Cum Laude, from the University of Miami where he was a Henry King Stanford Scholar and graduated with a Certificate of Excellence.  While attending UM he was a member of the university accounting, business and scholastic honor societies.  


Martinez is active in the community serving on various community and charitable boards, including serving as President of the University of Miami Greater Miami Alumni Club, Vice President of the UM Hurricane Club Board and Friends of the Frost School of Music.


Over the last 30 years, Martinez has served on numerous boards, committees and task forces, including review commissions, zoning board and advisory oversight boards.  Martinez has served as an elected Councilman, District 15, Miami-Dade County South Bay Community Council and Community Zoning Appeals Board dealing with the zoning and master plan issues for the south Miami-Dade County area.  He was appointed by the Community Council to serve on the Miami-Dade County South Corridor Citizen’s Transportation Advisory Committee with the other representatives of municipalities and unincorporated areas impacted by the south corridor options for Miami-Dade County.  He was appointed to serve on the Miami-Dade Building Better Communities Committee (the oversight board for the Miami-Dade County Infrastructure Bonds).  He also is the Treasurer for the Miami-Dade Agricultural Foundation.    


Martinez was appointed by the Cutler Bay Mayor to serve on the new Town of Cutler Bay’s Charter Review Committee, and subsequently elected as Chairman. 


Martinez was also appointed to the Miami-Dade Building Better Communities Citizens’ Advisory Committee that was established as part of the issuance of the general obligation bonds of Miami-Dade County that fund projects in Miami-Dade County, including the museums and other infrastructure, parks,  and structural improvement projects.   


He is a member of The Florida Bar and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  He is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court.  Martinez is a licensed attorney and certified public accountant (CPA).  He is also member of the American Academy of Attorney-CPAs.
